RUNX3 methylation and anti-tumor immunity.
Altered DNA methylation is a hallmark of cancer genomes and has been advocated as both a marker and mechanism of the malignant phenotype. In the conventional view, such alterations include global DNA hypomethylation, linked to aberrant expression of oncogenic driver genes and more localised de novo hypermethylation at ‘CpG-island’ promoters, argued to cause inappropriate silencing of tumor supp...
متن کاملPhotodynamic therapy and anti-tumor immunity.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Photodynamic therapy (PDT) efficacy appears to be enhanced in the presence of an intact immune system and PDT has been shown to augment anti-tumor immunity. The mechanisms leading to the enhancement of the host immune response to tumor are unclear. Anti-tumor immunity depends upon the presence of activated antigen presenting cells (APCs). These cells are activated by t...
متن کاملDrosophila 14-3-3ε has a crucial role in anti-microbial peptide secretion and innate immunity.
The secretion of anti-microbial peptides is recognised as an essential step in innate immunity, but there is limited knowledge of the molecular mechanism controlling the release of these effectors from immune response cells. Here, we report that Drosophila 14-3-3ε mutants exhibit reduced survival when infected with either Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria, indicating a functional role for...
متن کاملEngineering Anti-Tumor T Cell Immunity
T cell immunity is critical for protection against infectious agents as well as cancer. T cell immune response is a well orchestrated process that involves three key components. CD8+ T cells that harbor cytolytic machinery and can target and kill the tumor cells in an antigen specific manner, CD4+ T cells that can either “help” the generation of a productive CD8+ T cell or “regulate/suppress” i...
متن کاملHost CD73 impairs anti-tumor immunity
The enzymatic activity of CD73 produces immune-suppressing adenosine. In CD73 deficient hosts, tumor growth and tumor infiltration by Tregs and type 2 immunosuppressive macrophages is reduced. Pharmacological inhibition of CD73 in wild-type mice has similar tumor-suppressing effects. Host CD73 on leukocytes and endothelial cells is thus detrimental for the anti-tumor immunity.
